Porto Recanati is a popular tourist village by the sea in the Marche in Italy. Right outside the village is an enormous 17 floor building visible from far away that was originally build as hotel apartments for tourists. The building has 480 apartments which holds 2000 people (4000 during the summer) out of which 90% are immigrants from 40 different nations. Despite many families and children living there, the place is associated with drugs and criminality and the building and it’s residents are met with much fear. I met with Mamadou Djallo, the president of Senegalese association of Porto Recanati who kindly showed me around the building.
